Some information about Coal Harbour
Coal Harbour is an area of Downtown Vancouver to the west of Burrard Street, north of Georgia Street, east of Stanley Park. In 1859 Colonel Moody found coal in the bay, hence the name Coal Harbour. There turned out to be a little coal, but the name remained to this day. In 1884 the Canadian Pacific Railway was built at Coal Harbour, and the city of Vancouver was officially founded. In 1888 the public Stanley Park, named for Lord Stanley, then governor-general, was opened.
Coal Harbour was developing, in 1911 the pier was built, the docks, in 1929 the wonderful Marine building, Bill Boeing opened a factory for seaplanes and dinghies. The docks were burned in a fire in 1951-1952, in 1960-1970 the industrial area was moved out of the area, but the seaplane terminal and the boat and dinghy fuel station were left.
